Golden Eagle Award
The Golden Eagle award is designed for those students who are doing their very best academically, within the community, and within the school. It is achieved by completing any 12 of the following. This application and all your work compiled in a binder needs to be turned in to your homeroom teacher on Monday, April 22th. In addition, you must include a 5-paragraph essay explaining why you deserve Eastwood’s Golden Eagle Award.
Turn in the Summer Math/Reading Packet by August 23rd
Excellent behavior – No 5th Grade Choose to be Responsible behavior slips earned or school behavior consequence
Be on time and ready to learn (4 or fewer tardies during the year)
Four or fewer absences during the school year
Four or fewer missing or late assignments during the school year
Maintain a 3 average on report cards (Copy 3rd quarter’s report card for verification)
Complete 12 hours of service within the community (This cannot be your Hope of America project)
Write a persuasive essay on a topic of your choice that includes a strong hook and shows your knowledge of the parts of a persuasive essay
In Utah Compose earn a score of 27 on at least one assigned essay
Write a narrative story, at least 4 pages long. It must include an example of the following figurative language:
___Personification _____ Metaphor _____Simile ____ Onomatopoeia
No more than 1 missed reading goal per quarter
Write a 3-page research report (informational essay) that relates to one of the 5th grade science or social studies topics
Participate in the Reflections Contest (counts as 2 requirements if entered in multiple categories)
Participate in the Eastwood Science Fair (counts as 2 requirements)
Pass off a multiplication timed test by the end of October
Type 40 words per minute with 90% accuracy in typing agent
Improve on each Acadience Reading Test throughout the year
Improve on each Acadience Math Test throughout the year
Complete an at-home technology project that goes beyond what we are learning in class. Examples include: Movie about a science topic or create a video game that relates to a book we have read. Project must be shared with teacher, perhaps with class
Participate in Eastwood’s annual Dance Festival
Participate in a before or after school program at Eastwood
Participate in Eastwood’s library reading program (Earning Champion status counts as 2 requirements and earning Grand Champion status counts as 3 requirements)
Other – To be determined by discussion with your teacher
